Jinja Mountain Bike Race

Event Timing: last Saturday of January, assembling at 8:00AM

Start: Kayak the Nile / Nile River Explorers Camp, Bujagali (8km north of Jinja)

Finish: Itanda Falls (right in time for the spectacular Hendri Coetzee Itanda Falls Memorial grade 5 white water race during the Nile River Festival).

The Jinja Mountain Bike Race and Ride is an unique fundraising. The event offers a race for the competitive ones and a guided recreational ride for the people who would like to take it a bit slower. But whether you choose to race or ride your participation will support students in Uganda with bicycles. This 2020-edition of the Jinja Mountain Bike Race and Ride will specifically support students from two Soft Power Education schools in Buyala, Budondo to improve their access to education with bicycles (#Bike4School).

The Jinja Mountain Bike Race and Ride is a 30km-ish Race and Ride through the trails and villages on the banks of the mighty white River Nile. It is definitely more than another bicycle event. It’s a celebration of cycling, of having a good time on the bike. And by having a good time on the bike you will support the bicycle projects of Cycling out of Poverty Foundation Uganda.

Uganda for Roses

Uganda for the Roses is a one-day event giving you a choice to ride, run or walk. The event offers a 15 (mountain) bike ride (not a race), a 5 and 10km run and a family-friendly 5 km walk. Whether you choose to ride, run or walk your participation will support girls and women in Uganda to beat cancer. Activities include a free t-shirt and Finish Line Celebration at Jinja Club.  

The 15 km cycling route offers a chance to have a guided ride through the historical city of Jinja, its informal settlements and fish landing site. The ride begins and ends at Jinja Golf Club. Participants must be 12 or older.

The 5km walk (or march) is an easy walk through the historical town of Jinja. Children to 12 may participate with no minimum fundraising requirement, and a reduced registration fee of UGX 25,000, while under the supervision of a registered adult; youth T-shirt and medal will be provided. There is no charge for children under 3.

Uganda for the Roses gives a special warm welcome to our fundraisers, which we call #canceraser, who will figuratively go the extra mile for us. Whether you ride, run or walk you can become our fundraiser. 100% OF PARTICIPANT-RAISED FUNDS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO RAYS OF HOPE HOSPICE JINJA & CYCLING OUT OF POVERTY UGANDA FOUNDATION. As a fundraisers/#canceraser, you will be awarded with some bonus extra’s:

– Free pasta and barbeque lunch

SILVER FUNDRAISERS: UGX 250,000

Supporting Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja (RHHJ) to support their awareness campaign about cervical cancer, the screening and the vaccination and to collect data. And supporting Cycling out of Poverty Foundation (CooP-Uganda) to continue improve palliative care service to patients and families with advanced cancer and HIV/AIDS by equipping community health volunteers with bicycles and smart phones.

 World Bicycle Day

The United Nations declared June 3rd International World Bicycle Day #June3WorldBicycleDay. A special day to give more attention to the role a bicycles plays directly on at least 12 of the 17 sustainable development goals, cycling delivers on the Global Goals!

On this special annual day Bikeventures and Cycling out of Poverty are happy to join the celebration of the FREEDOM OF CYCLING in Jinja, Uganda.

What?

We close Gabula Rd in Jinja to allow children to ride their (or Bikeventures’) bicycles, skates or skate boards in a car free, safe environment, on a 1 kilometer long smooth stretch of asphalt. Where can you find that in Uganda?!

Source of the Nile Triathlon

Jinja’s Source of the Nile Triathlon is organised in association with Nalubale Rafting Uganda, Bikeventures Uganda: Bicycle Tours and Rentals Nile River Camp The Black Lantern and Clark Expeditions.

Join us  for a beautiful sprint Triathlon and Duathlon in Bujagali, Jinja. Swim in the beautiful and majestic Nile River, starting and finishing from the Nile River Camp (www.camponthenile.com), transition in the shaded gardens of the camp as you get on your bike for a 19.5km mountain bike ride through local communities on a mix of murrum road (like fire roads) and singletrack. After Transition 2 back at the camp we head out for a 5km run around Bujagali village with plenty of locals cheering you on!

Proceeds from this event are going to Cycling out of Poverty Foundation (CooP-Africa).

Enter as an individual, team or two or team of three. There is also a duathlon (run, bike, run) for those who can’t or won’t swim and a fun run for the families and kiddo’s (2.5km).
