Extended curriculum programmes have been designed to supply support to students who are identified with the
necessary competencies to be successful in studies at NMMU, but who are in need of additional development to ensure they are fully prepared for the demands of degree, diploma and national higher certificate studies.

The programmes are typical of longer duration than the standard programmes by one academic year, and provide additional support to students in addiition to giving them more time to complete their studies.

The extended curriculum programmes are offered in cooperation between NMMU centre for extended studies and the relevant faculties. Modules (courses) in each programme are divided into two categories:

Students enrolled for extended curriculum programmes have access to all the facilities and structures of both extended curriculum and the relevant faculty.

In addition to the rules and regulations in extended curriculum programme, students must also adhere to all the regulations of the relevant standard programme in each faculty.
