The Competition Commission of Mauritius is a statutory body established in 2009 to enforce the Competition Act 2007. This Act established a competition regime in Mauritius, under which the CCM can investigate possible anticompetitive behavior by businesses. In its investigations, the CCM has considerable powers to compel businesses and others involved to prove information. If it decides that a business’s conduct is anticompetitive, it has strong powers to intervene and correct the situation. Where businesses have been found to be deliberately agreeing to fix prices or share markets, the Commission can impose fines. The Commission is a parastatal, under the aegis of the Ministry of Financial Services, Good Governance and Institutional Reforms. The National Parks and Conservation Service (NPCS), was established on 9 May 1994 under Section 8 of the Wildlife & National Parks Act 1993. It is headed by the Ag. The National Transport Authority (NTA) is a department operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Land Transport and Shipping. It was established under the Road Traffic Act in 1980 and has, as main responsibility, the regulation and control of road transport in Mauritius and Rodrigues. The responsiblity for the administration of the NTA rests with the Road Transport Commissioner. The NTA also has a Board constituted under section 73 of the Road Traffic Act. Trafalgar Hall known as Garisson Hall formed part of the military compound of the British during their stay in Mauritius. Prior to its renovation, Trafalgar Hall was an old wooden building located at corner St Vincent and Farquhar Road, Vacoas. National Blood Transfusion Service of Mauritius is situated in the premises of Victoria Hospital, Candos. In 1994 and 1997, the Ministry of Arts and Culture signed two conventions with the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), formerly known as the Agence de Coopération Culturelle et Technique (ACCT), to set up a network of ‘Centre de Lecture et d’Animation Culturelle’ (CLAC) in the rural areas of Mauritius and Rodrigues with a view to provide library facilities, promote cultural activities and sensitise the population on a wide array of topics and themes of common interest. Following the Tripartite meeting held in 1991, the proposal for setting up an Employees Welfare Fund to cater for the welfare, leisure and recreational needs of the employees was retained. The Fund was provided with a legal framework for its operation under the Finance and Audit (Employees Welfare Fund) Regulation 1991 on 9th August 1991. A few years later, in 1995, it became a body corporate with the enactment of the Employees Welfare Act 1995.

It operates with a seed capital made up of contribution paid by employers in respect of their employees during period 01 July 1991 to 30 June 1994. The total annual contribution represented 2.5% of the salaries of employees.

The Albion Fisheries Research Centre (AFRC) was established in 1981/1982 with the assistance of the Government of Japan under a Grant Aid Project and it is operational since June 1982, under the aegis of the Ministry of Fisheries. The AFRC is the technical arm of the Ministry of Fisheries and carries out applied research, development and management activities. The infrastructure has been gradually expanded over the years so as to cope with the increasing diversity of projects being implemented. In 1982, the AFRC had a total floor area of 1300m2 comprising administrative, laboratory, and machine/workshop blocks and a hatchery. In 1987, a marine shrimp culture experimental station was added to it comprising a shrimp hatchery, laboratory block and ponds.
