Association of National Accountants of Nigeria is the only chartered professional accountancy body in Nigeria empowered by law to teach as well as examine all its students. Besides, it is the only body having the absolute power to advance the science of accountancy. The Association was formed on 1st January, 1979, incorporated on 28th September, 1983 and was finally chartered by Decree 76 of 1993 on 25th August, 1993. It has a total membership of 10,260 as at December 2007. The Association is a truly national accountancy body with education and training programme reflecting the national environment which would meet internationally accepted accountancy standards. It was born out of a burden shared by a number of well meaning Nigerians for a home grown and home spun professional body. It sought a thoroughly Nigerian and community based approach to the definition of accountancy standards and practices.

On June 27, 1981, some notable personalities in Nigerian literature converged at the scenic academic haven of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka on the invitation of Professor Chinua Achebe. That convocation of writers debated the desirability of having a writers association in the country. Spurred by the moving speech of the convener and the wisdom of having an association of refined minds, the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) was born. The Nsukka conference, attended by two Kenyan writers, Ngugi wa Thiong’o and Gacheche Wauringi, therefore entered history as the first convention of ANA. For the over 30 years since its formation, ANA has been in the forefront of the promotion of Nigerian Literature and the interest of Nigerian writers. Nigerian writers, united under the banner of ANA, have gone through challenging travails and have equally recorded remarkable achievements. Most importantly, ANA has robustly remained very active as the largest guild of writers in sub-Saharan Africa

Association of Nigerian Exporters (ANE) is the Apex Export Sector body within the Nigerian Organized Private Sector (OPS) approved by the Federal Ministry of Justice and incorporated on July 20, 1988 by the then Federal Ministry of Trade as a non-profit organization, Limited by Guarantee for the development and promotion of export in all its ramifications. ANE is the statutory representative of Nigerian Exporters. In this light, the Association represents the private export sector on the Boards of Government Agencies & Committees responsible for export development and promotion, including the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), States’ Export Promotion Committees, Nigeria Committee On Trade Procedures (NITPRO), Technical Committee on National Shea Development Programme, etc.

The practice of Counselling as a helping profession is chronicled in many books that have been written by the Founding Fathers of Counselling Association of Nigeria. Much of the history captures how Reverend Sisters at St. Theresas College, Ibadan Western Nigeria in the 1950’s and 1960’s institutionalized the events of Careers Day for students as a platform for motivating them for appropriate career choices (Makinde, 1986). The efforts of Rev. Sisters later metamorphosed into the coming into being of the Ibadan Careers Council as a formal platform for promoting career counselling practice in schools across the then Western Region of Nigeria.

IPMAN is an acronym for Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria. Its corporate office is at No. 41 Gnassingbe Eyadema Street, Asokoro, Abuja. This body was established by a decree in 1978 by the then propitious Administration of OLUSEGUN OBASANJO, as Military Head of State. IPMAN applied for registration to Corporate Affairs Commission under the (perpetual succession) Act Cap 98 of Laws of Nigeria on February 3, 1983. The seal of registration was Registration Certificate No. 2686 and File No. 7844 MIA.

Founded in 1888, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the Premier Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria. It was incorporated in 1950 as a non-profit making organization, Limited by Guarantee under the Companies Act of 1948. The primary objective of the Chamber is to promote, support or oppose legislative or other measures affecting trade, industry, commerce and agriculture as well as representing the opinion of the business community on the above matters in particular, and the economy as a whole

NANTS was formed in Lagos by a group of traders in October 1997.The organisation was formed as a human rights and mediating force during the military regime of General Abacha when traders, perhaps owing to their perceived ignorance were suffering from arbitrary harassments, arrests and intimidation in the hands of uniformed men who sometimes carted away their goods with impunity. The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association is the umbrella of all Veterinary Surgeons who are registered with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria. It is a body corporate with perpetual succession and was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria in 1996 Registration Certificate Number 9454.

The Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria. ACEN, was founded in 1972 and registered in 1979. The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) is an Incorporated Trustees formed in the year 2000. It is the industry body for all telecommunications companies and those providing subsidiary services to telecommunications service providers in Nigeria, with the objective of promoting growth in the telecommunications sector and, ultimately, efficient telecommunications services delivery to the Nigerian public. The National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) is the Umbrella Body of all Travel Agencies operating in Nigeria. The association, founded in 1973 by Travel Agents, was born out of the need to harmonise the needs of travel agents and present them to the Airlines and governing bodies. We are registered under the Land Perpetual Act as a Non-profit and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), promoting travel and tourism. The primary objectives of NANTA are: -To promote and protect the interest of Travel Agencies and Tour Operators operating within the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The NACCIMA established in 1960, is the umbrella organization for all the various affiliate member chambers within the country. The Association’s membership is voluntary and it encompasses City, State and Bilateral Chambers, Business/Professional Association and Corporate Bodies. It champions the course of business through its advocacy role and influence public policies that promote free enterprise. The perspective of the NACCIMA is in accordance with contemporary ideas of the chambers of Commerce Movement in a relatively free enterprise economy the world over. The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is the apex regulatory and promotional maritime agency.
