About Uganda Institute of Information & Communications Technology

Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT), located at Plot 9-21 Port Bell Road, Nakawa, Kampala, Uganda, was established in 1965 as the East African Posts and Telecommunications Training Centre. Following the enactment of the Uganda Communications Act, 1997, the training centre was transferred to the Uganda Communications Commission. The Commission changed the name of the centre to Uganda Communications Institute, and later to the present name of Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology. In October 2005, UICT was established as a public tertiary institution by the Ministry of Education and Sports under the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001. In November 2007, the Ministry of Education and Sports transferred the management of the Institute to the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology(MoICT).
