JJ Community Transformation (U) began in 2006 when local pioneer Horace shared his vision to improve lives in his home village. Horace knows first hand how tough life in this community can be – orphaned at 9 years old he grew up with his grandmother, and had to work hard to provide for his basic needs and education. As a youngster he felt especially sad during periods of absenteeism from school due to not affording the required school fees. Yet, Horace gratefully remembers support from key people within the community who, despite their limited income, encouraged and supported him as they were able. He made a commitment to help others struggling to survive and to access education should he grow up. Thanks to generous support, his sixth form and further education costs were all covered, leading to salaried employment in Kampala.
