Lake Albert Fisheries Community Organisation-Uganda (LAFCO-UG) was founded in 2017 as the fishing community’s umbrella organization focusing on uniting and economically emancipating key players in the fisheries value chain; enhancing business networking/ partnerships, trade and investment within the fisheries sector; promoting efficient exploitation of the fisheries resource; and contributing to the protection of the Albertine environment. With effect from 2018, LAFCO-UG started implementing a 5-year Strategic Livelihood & Lake Management Plan, christened 'Socio-economic Transformation & Environmental Protection (STEP) programme', that will benefit the communities living and deriving livelihood from L. Albert and its environs in the districts of Buliisa, Hoima, Kagadi, Ntoroko and Pakwach.
