About Society of Radiography in Kenya

The Society of Radiography in Kenya (SORK) is registered by the registrar of societies in Kenya under the Societies Act Cap 108, as a society exempted from registration, a provision contained in Section 10 of this Act. NB: Exemption of a society is purely at the discretion of the Minister.

The Society of Radiography in Kenya (SORK) is a professional body that caters for the professional interests of all the radiographers practicing in Kenya. Founded in 1962, the Society boasts of having a registered membership of about 1070 practicing radiographers, which is estimated to be more than 90% of the diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers in Kenya. The Society is affiliated to related professional and community bodies including International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT), Association of professional societies in East Africa (APSEA) and the Ministry of Health in Kenya.

In order to create synergy and enhance effectiveness in the execution of its mandate, the society is also seeking collaborative alliances with renowned training institutions like the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. We are also working to put into effect a collaborative MOU with the Radiation Protection Board of Kenya to ensure our members are compliant as far as matters related to radiation protection and safety are concerned.

SORK is a non-profit making national organization that provides professional support for radiographers. It is directly responsible for the Professional, Educational, Research, Public Service and Workplace interest of its members. It also determines the radiological health care agenda and gives opinion in a wide range of professional issues. In addition, it also sets the practicing and training standards that become the policies co-opted and acclaimed by the government and health professionals in the country. The activities of SORK are geared towards carrying out quality control, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and Continuous Education (CE) all over the country and it accredits the CPD points attained for onward transmission to the Ministry of Health (MOH).
