The government of Ghana understands the challenging role of initiating preventive and control measures to address the menace of arms proliferation and their illicit use in Ghana. This is because the government is aware of the potential that Small Arms and Light Weapons [SALW] proliferation and abuse have in undermining political stability, regional security, human security and development. Ghana thus views small arms control as a fundamental requisite for developmental initiatives. The government of Ghana is, therefore, increasingly concerned about the extent of illicit SALW proliferation, and has been taking steps at the community, national and regional levels to address the problems of proliferation and production.
