The date for man's first appearance in Ghana's territory is unknown. But the earliest-known man-made lithic technology found in prehistoric sites at Hohoe, and Anyirawasi in Volta Region, at Asokrochona and Nungua near Tema, suggest that Ghana was first inhabited by human around 300,000 years ago. The "hand axe" and "pick" stone technology of the earliest inhabitants gave way from 10,0000 BC onwards to "composite" type technology found commonly in caves, rock shelters and open sites, countrywide
