BRIEF HISTORY The Biotechnology and Nuclear Agriculture Research Institute (BNARI) was established as one of the research, development and technology transfer institutes of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, which was established in 1963 by an Act of Parliament (Act 204 of 1963). Act 588 of 2000 replaced Act 204 and PNDC Law 308 and enabled the Commission to create new institutes and commercialize its research findings. BNARI was therefore established as a result of the upgrading of the Department of Biology, Food and Agriculture of the National Nuclear Research Institute. The main objective of the institute is to apply isotopes, ionizing radiation and biotechnologies for increased agricultural and economic development of Ghana.
