Azania Bank Ltd (formally 1st Adili Bancorp Ltd) is now a Commercial Bank was established in 1995 as a financial institution following the liberalization of the banking sector. The initiative of setting up the bank came from indigenous Tanzanians who teamed up with the two social security fund in the country, National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and Parastatal Pension Fund (PPF) to support the start up of the bank. The bank also obtained participation from international aid organizations such as Swedish International Development Agency (through SwedFund). American bullion trader and merchant bank, Gerald Metals Inc The name Azania came into being in the third quarter of 2000 after reorganizing of 1st Adili into new shareholding and management. In October 2004 we changed the name Bancorp to Bank and from a financial institution into a commercial bank to make room for further growth anticipated.
