Recognized by Decree-Law No. 12/2001 as an institution of higher education in the public interest, the UniPiaget started its activities on May 7, 2001 with the opening of the 1st year of Sociology. In 2005 the UniPiaget opened a University Campus in the city of Mindelo began operating with three undergraduate courses (Educational Sciences and Educational Praxis, Economics and Management and Systems and Computer Engineering). In 2007 also opened the course in architecture. The Hub operates under the supervision of a Director of Administration and an assemble of the Rector. Today, the University welcomes about 2,000 students assigned to 16 of the 26 approved courses. The number of teachers is around 380, spread over various hiring schemes and degrees.
