BIVA Foundation Known as BIVA, is a community-based organization (CBO) working in Mityana Town and Busimbi sub-county, Uganda. It was formed in 2000 by a group of community members concerned about the increasing levels of poverty in the area due to rapid population growth, the impact of HIV/AIDS, and loss of livelihoods by community members due to their eviction from forest reserves. BIVA uses access to clean and general purpose water as an entry point to fight poverty. In May of this year NUWOCSI partnered with Malaika Honey and opened the Honey Centre in Gulu. Malaika Honey has been in Uganda for more than 10 years promoting beekeeping for business. They were looking to expand into northern Uganda as the potential for honey production is very good here. We partnered with Malaika so we could be in a better position to help the local bee farmers.We want to assist the bee farmers in acquiring modern hives and equipment, like a bee suit. With modern hives like a Kenya Top Bar (KTB) hive they can more than double their honey production each year. We can also be a ready market for them and Malaika offers competitive prices for honey, propolis and beeswax purchases. There are many farmers beekeeping with the traditional hives with some having more than 100 hives. Yet, many lack a market and lack the transport to get their honey to a market. Abide was founded by two Americans named Kelsey Nielsen and Megan Parker. Kelsey and Megan met while volunteering in an orphanage in Jinja, Uganda. While at the orphanage they were surprised to see parents coming to visit their children and asked why the children were in the orphanage if they had parents who loved and missed them? They were told the children's parents could not afford to feed or care for them. Then why don't we help the parents so the children can go home? Kelsey and Megan worked with the orphanage for three years to resettle children back to their families. We are very proud of our collaboration with the Ministry of Education and other large organisations in Uganda to develop the teachers resource book for 'Inclusive Education in Uganda: The Child-to-Child Approach'. Through our partner, USDC, we have partnered with the Ugandan government to develop and test the guide in three northern Ugandan districts prior to a national roll-out. Through this partnership, we have participated in high level conversations on how the teacher’s guide links to Uganda's wider Inclusive Education policy, particularly examining the existing gaps in early identification systems and learning outcomes of children with disabilities in school. We work with local partners to protect, educate and empower children with disabilities so they are able to fulfil their potential.

In 1980 Angela Gifford had one or two conversations with older relatives and friends and they raised the issue that if they needed to be cared for in the coming years, there was very little choice. It seemed that if you needed significant care support then you had to move into a residential care setting. One relative in particular had spent all her married life in the home her husband had built and was adamant that she would not move out. Thinking about this over a few months and doing some research to find out exactly what was available, Angela too came to the conclusion that there was very little choice if you wanted to re living in your home of choice, your own.

Action for Children (AFC) is a national based Non-Governmental Organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of life of the vulnerable children. AFC was founded on the basis of a child helpline in 1995 out of a deep conviction and commitment by the founder Dr. Jolly Nyeko and in 1998 the organization was registered with the NGO Board. The work of Agency for Cooperation and Research in Development (ACORD) in Uganda includes critical research into the causes of conflict, poverty and promotion of good governance. ACORD believes that social justice and equality are the basis of meaningful peace and its work focuses on redressing economic and social imbalances. Current programmes include HIV prevention, research and training in conflict resolution and good governance. AIM Uganda, formerly Rakai Orphans Development Initiatives (RODI), is a grassroots organization operating in Southern Uganda in the Kyotera and Rakai Districts. This area of Uganda is ground zero of AIDS. Since the disease was discovered in 1982, more than a million people have died, leaving behind more than 1.2 million orphans. In Uganda, HIV/AIDS has significantly reduced life expectancy, depleted the labor force and reduced food security. Many children are being raised by elderly relatives and these children often have no choice but to work as laborers, rather than attend school. Many communities are trapped in cycles of poverty and disease. The goal of AIM is to transform the lives of these young people and their communities.

How Awinjo House Was Started In 2007, Papa Ken had severe malaria and was admitted to a clinic for two days. It was there that he met Awinjo Joyce. This girl was 16 years old and full height, but only weighed 67 pounds. She was saved and sang in her church choir, but her stomach was bloated and lumpy. Papa Ken took took her for an ultrasound, and was with her when the doctor found large masses in her abdomen that were affecting her liver, kidneys, and spleen. The doctor was positive that it was lymphoma. For the next week Papa Ken took Awinjo and her mother to various doctors and labs for tests, and the best diagnosis was advanced lymphoma, which is cancer in the lymph system. The treatment is chemotherapy, which Awinjo could not survive in her weakened condition, and no one could afford it anyway. She was born out of wedlock and her father abandoned the situation. In 1917 Anton and Viola Andersen boarded the ship The City of Calcutta to plant their lives in Africa for the sake of the Gospel. Through more than forty years of ministry, thousands came to Christ. In 1955 the Andersen's son Fred, a student at Tennessee Temple, impressed upon Dr. Lee Roberson the need for helpers in the Belgian Congo. In response Dr. Roberson, along with nine other pastors, organized the Southern wing of the Congo Gospel Mission. When the Congo closed in 1960 because of revolution, Dr. Roberson made the motion that the Mission be enlarged to embrace the world. That led to the formation of Baptist International Missions on June 28, 1960. Since 1960 BIMI has extended its ministries into 100 fields around the world. In 2001, the Chain Foundation Uganda orphanage was started by retired Archbishop Livingstone Nkoyoyo in response to the needs of local orphans, former street children, abandoned children, and the disabled. The foundation is home to more than 100 orphans and other vulnerable children, including over 40 blind students. It provides a loving, Christian environment to meet the children’s physical, educational, medical, and spiritual needs. The foundation also assists many at-risk or disabled children who live in nearby communities, and provides community education programs. The Chain Foundation is located in Mukono, 20 kilometers from the capital city of Kampala. The Martin Nkoyoyo Inclusive School at the Chain Foundation opened in February 2009. It is the first school of its kind in Uganda, integrating blind and sighted children. This model school currently serves over 300 students from the orphanage and from nearby villages. Message from our founder, Sir Magdi Yacoub It is a little known fact that 1 child in every 100 is born with a heart defect. Most of these defects can be corrected by operations which are performed as a matter of routine in the developed world. In contrast, if uncorrected these defects can cause considerable suffering and premature death. This afflicts a massive number of children around the world. Chain of Hope was created to help as many of these children as possible. The vision for Children of Grace began when Mary Ann McCoy first witnessed the devastating effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in 2002. On a trip to Uganda to help with the AIDS crisis, Mary Ann met Grace, an HIV positive mother of two. Grace confided in Mary Ann that she was afraid to die, leaving her children as orphans. “Who is going to love, nurture and educate them?” In response, Mary Ann promised to educate Grace’s children. Soon after Grace died, Children of Grace was born to fulfill the promise to love, nurture and educate Ugandan children. Today, Children of Grace works tirelessly toward this commitment by providing education, lifesaving healthcare, empowerment programs and holistic mentoring to thousands of Ugandan orphans and other children impacted by extreme poverty and AIDS.

66,000 children are thought to have been forcibly abducted and recruited into the Ugandan guerrilla militia known as the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) during its two-decade long insurgency in the northern region of Uganda (1986-2006). Two-thirds of these children were severely beaten, a fifth were forced to kill, nearly 10 percent were forced to murder a family member or friend to bind them to the group, and those who had been abducted are more than three times as likely to have a serious physical injury or illness that impedes their ability to work. Abductees are twice as likely to report difficulties in family and community relations, have several years less education, and are twice as likely to be illiterate.”

About Children of Ssuubi Children of Ssuubi is a registered foreign Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Uganda. The organization was founded 2015 by Shadi Shafiee, a social worker from Sweden who runs the organization together with a team in Uganda and in Sweden. While our team in Sweden are responsible for raising funds and create partnerships, our team in Uganda are responsible for running the work on the ground.

Children of the Father's House is a Ugandan children’s home for two parent orphans and/or extremely vulnerable children who would otherwise be in destitute poverty. Our non-profit based in Bremerton, Washington works hand in hand with the Ugandan NGO by the same name, to care for these children in the context of a loving, family-style home, through sponsorship which provides for all aspects of health, schooling, and general well-being. Also through sponsorship, these children know that they are loved and cared for; a critical, hope-building factor. We actively encourage and facilitate the ability for children and sponsors to connect leveraging modern technology in a safe and meaningful way. We consider it our job to open windows between two worlds for hearts to connect. Both the sponsor and the sponsored are blessed by the relationship and the result is changed lives on both sides of the planet!

Uganda “the Pearl of Africa,” boasting some of the best scenery in Africa, is composed of lakes, rivers, mountains, and semi-arid lands. It is home to Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake and chief source of the Nile River. Uganda’s people have endured much suffering in recent history. Between 800,000 and 2 million people died during the dictatorship of Idi Amin (1971–1979) and the civil wars, tribal killings, and famines that followed. Then, from 1988 to 2006, the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army terrorized Uganda's northern districts. As the government forced the closure of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in 2007, most of the people of northern Uganda returned to their homes or communities. However, countless communities were completely destroyed and families killed, leaving many with nowhere to go. Annette’s vision was to help the deprived children in a rural area of Uganda close to her heart. She began by sponsoring the education of two orphans and then in 2005 she and her brother, Ambrose Katuntu, set up the Buyemba Suubira Uganda Foundation (BSUF). The Foundation focuses on Butansi in the Kamuli district of SE Uganda and stands as a tribute to their parents, Mr Nelson and Mrs Angella Buyemba, who helped the poor from their home village. BSUF was formed in response to the increasing number of orphans and vulnerable chidren in the area who had lost one or both of their parents to HIV/AIDS. These children were missing out on an education to help them develop. About Children Safe Uganda Since 1968 when CSU was founded, the situation of children in Uganda continues to face many challenges-including HIV/AIDS, orphan hood, civil wars and conflict. Child abuse is on the rise and many children escape their foster parents due to corporal punishments; the number of street children has increased, and some have become sex workers. All these changes have increased the number of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). There is therefore a greater call for interventions to address the plight of OVCs in Uganda and the world over.

Children First Uganda (CFU) is a UK-based charity (registered number 1130672) which provides support and raises funding for a Ugandan NGO, CALM Africa. This community-based organisation aims to protect and promote the rights of children living in poverty in Uganda, through delivering education and community outreach programmes. CALM Africa works within local communities supporting vulnerable children and their families affected by extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS, malaria and other illnesses and difficulties. Many of the children they care for have lost their parents as the result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and live in child-headed households. They also lobby to local and national Government about children’s rights, to really affect change.

In 2001 I visited Uganda for the first time. We preached in various places, including Kisenyi, the slum where it all began. You can hear them if you listen carefully: perhaps a lilting tune, some good-natured sibling jostling and the low murmur of excitement. Soon they come into view. Children, some one-hundred eighteen—with crisp navy uniforms and outfitted with bright socks and new shoes on feet unused to being enclosed—are converging on the village road that leads to a beacon of hope in Gulu, northern Uganda. These children are attending school, many for the first time, and they are proud and enthusiastic to call Christ the Center Ministries Primary and Nursery School their school. The story of how we began Reverend Reuben Barruel and his wife, Clarita Barruel were both ordained in the Philippines as Ministers of the Gospel. They were pastoring at Pasig Bethel Templefor 12 years when God placed in their hearts to move to America. With just their faith and their hearts to obey and serve the Lord, the couple, with their twelve-year old son, Stephen Hope and their eight-year old daughter Eunice Love, migrated to the United States of America. They arrived in San Francisco International Airport on March 7, 1977. In the fall of the same year, they started a prayer meeting in their home and shared their burden to a handful of new friends about how God had called and sent them to this area to build “bridges of Love” among God’s people. The CLARE NSENGA FOUNDATION is a humble dedication to the late Sister Clare Nsenga. Sister Clare was born in Cyanika, a village in the Kisoro district of Southwestern Uganda. At the age of 15 years she joined the Sisters of the Congregation of Our Lady of Good Council. She served in various parishes in Kabale Diocese, Uganda, until 1983 when she was sent to United States of America to pursue graduate studies. It was her hope to establish a charity which would address the concerns of her people in her native Uganda, especially those of her birth village of Cyanika. Her desire was to make it possible for the rural poor of Uganda to have access to adequate health services and education. Upon her return to her native Uganda, her life was cut short by breast cancer before her dreams could be fully realized. The foundation serves as a lasting tribute to her ideals and memory. Muyonga has led health and nutrition surveys for four districts in Northern Uganda. He has also led several nutrition and health intervention programs, including two nutrition and health education projects funded by the UN WFP aimed at alleviating malnutrition and health problems in Northern and North Eastern Uganda. The other founder members, Richard Bukenya, Sophie Nansereko and Richard Bakaluba have from 3-7 years experience in community health and nutrition projects, including working with Ministry of Health, Districts, and NGOs.

Community Restoration Initiative (CORE) is a non- profit making, group member- based Non- Governmental Organization, founded and registered in 2015, Reg. No.0356. The Organization offices are situated in Kampala, Uganda. CORE offers psycho-social support and vocational skills for job creation and employment youths and children. Since its inception in 2015 youths who include 21 street children (Garbage collectors), 92 Teenage mothers, 46 women in sexual exploitation, 17 youths in drug abuse and 3 youths with disability have benefited from our programs. Comfort for Africa is a faith-based NGO operating in the Kingdom of Eswatini. We have worked alongside local churches on a part-time basis since 2007. Our organization was originally called Swaziland Relief, but we changed our name to Comfort for Africa after the Kingdom of Eswatini changed its official name in 2018. We have had a full-time presence in Eswatini since January 2019. The focus of our work is in Education, Discipleship, and partnership with the emaSwati Deaf community.

At the dawn of the 50’s Peter Warsop, an ardent young preacher who was tireless in his pursuit of truth, and others of like mind rented a small, upper room in the bustling market town of Loughborough, Leics., and the work as it is today, began. A time of unfolding revelation followed as this minister taught about the Body of Christ, the function of the ministerial gifts as laid out in Ephesians 4 and freedom to use the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Little, if anything, was being taught about these things in the church world at that time. In the late 1950’s he took up the pastorate of a church group in Nottingham. In a relatively short period of time the group grew through an intense programme of evangelism which saw hundreds of people come to faith and receive water baptism!

Connect Africa Ministries is a relational, faith-based organization that exists to empower individuals through outreach and training in appropriate technologies for sustainable community transformation. Trevor & Jana Tychon founded Connect Africa Ministries in 2003 to reach out to individuals displaced by war in Northern Uganda. Conservation Efforts for Community Development. CECOD is a Non Governmental Organization founded in 1999 to empower communities in Uganda for popular participation in conservation of the environment for Sustainable Community Development. CECOD promotes Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Uganda and empowers people, especially the youth, to lift themselves out of poverty. Conservation is rooted in earning the support of the local communities who share a backyard with some of the most biodiverse wildlife in the world. Many of the most isolated and impoverished families live around protected areas in Africa—their lifestyles imposing an imminent threat to the survival of wildlife and habitats and eventually, themselves. Land encroachment, competition for food, and the spread of zoonotic disease between people, wildlife and livestock are all grim everyday realities. In 1996, the first scabies outbreak in the gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, resulted in the death of an infant gorilla and the rest of the gorilla group recovered with Ivermectin treatment. The fatal disease was traced back to the local communities living around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
